We sat down with her and talked about everything surfing to give you guys some insights on the up and coming world champion one day!
Youngest at the Florida Pro 2019
Salomé: Hey guys, Salome here with Surf Training Factory. We are here at the Florida Pro 2019 in Sebastian Florida with Zoe Benedetto, one of the youngest competitors in the event right? How does it feel to be the youngest?
Zoe: Yes! It feels great, I can actually prove myself more to more people and I want and I want to be like kind of the person that messes everything up. Kind of like the runt of the group. But I just want to do my best and show everybody what I can do.
Salomé: haha That’s awesome! What age did you start surfing? Now you are 13 and you’re competing in the WSL but when did you start competing and everything like that?
Zoe: I started actually surfing when I was 5 but I’ve surfed my whole life basically. And then I started competing at about probably 7 years old. Ever since then I really like it so I just keep doing it.
Before she won the WSL QS in North Carolina 2019
Salomé: Yeah of course! Now what are the biggest events that you won so far?
Zoe: The biggest event was probably NSSA Nationals that I did well in, in California, I got 1st in Explorer Super girls last year. And then I’ve done pretty well in all my USA surfing primes and a couple pro events around town and stuff. Mostly the NSSA Nationals.
Soccer athlete too
Salomé: Awesome! I know you’re a really good soccer player too. So you do a lot of conditioning for surfing with soccer right?
Zoe: Yes I do that a lot.
Salomé: What kind of conditioning do you do outside of the water for surfing?
Zoe: well with soccer I do all my cardio, so I do that all the time, even when there is no practice, I would go and run and practice with my dad. I also do a lot of core and leg exercises just to build power and being able to last longer.
Salomé: Yeah!Do you do any skateboard dry land training or anything like that?
Zoe: I use the carver a lot, I don’t really do regular skating or anything like that. But I do a lot of carving just to practice my pumping and it really helps.
Tips from Zoe Benedetto
Salomé: yeah of course! If you were to help a new girl trying to get into competition, what would you recommend she starts doing to start competing?
Zoe: I would say literally just HAVE FUN! Make sure you’re having fun before you you get into it, if you’re not having fun then why are you surfing?! So first of all and most importantly have fun, and then just discipline yourself but be proud of yourself too and push yourself so that you can do your best. You want to be the best that you can be.
Salomé:Yes i agree, okay well thank you so much! Good luck in Round 2 of the WSL Florida Pro and we will see you soon!
Zoe: Thank you!
There you have it guys! A lot of knowledge and things to get out of this young Floridian. She is very knowledgeable and knows how much works it takes to accomplish your dreams at such a young age. Definitely somebody to lookout for in the future!
