We at the Surf Training Factory have spent many hours researching and testing the best surf gear and equipment on the market. These items are battle-tested and can be suggested without any equivocation.
Make sure that you do understand that these items are not necessarily all the highest-end items in the market. Our goal on this page is to recommend gear that is priced really well while still maintaining a high-quality standard that we would use on our own boards or for our own surf training.
So maybe you’ve got your surfboard or maybe you are still looking for one. After that, you will need the rest of the gear that goes along with it. For this, you’re going to need some knowledge of what to look for, and some moola, money, paper….you get our message. No one said this was a cheap sport, and that’s because as you get better and progress, you will buy new things to make your surfing experience easier and better.
It’s of paramount importance that you invest the money to get the correct gear the first time around. I remember when one of our friends purchased his first surfboard, and he used to paddle out and not be able to catch any waves that would roll through the sets. The reason was, he was too big for the size of surfboard he was trying to learn on. Unfortunately, he had already spent over $600 on that new surfboard. He wishes someone had taught him which equipment and gear to buy perfectly the first time. The good news he had friends that could let him borrow a beginners board and as he progressed in surfing, he was able to use that same board, later on, so the money was not completely wasted.
You need to be real with yourself and admit your level of surfing. Do not try to keep up with the local kid that rips from your local surf shop. Everyone has to start somewhere in any sport, and surfing is the same exact thing.
Cutting corners by buying the same size surfboard that Felipe Toledo or Jeremy Flores uses in the WLS when you are a beginner can result in far more pain and grief than the extra knowledge about the correct equipment or product that you really need. So think wisely when making your next purchase as your surfing days will be less fun if you don’t learn what the best gear for surfing is.
